Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Tanzania

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, trekkers will be greeted by their tour guide and transferred to a hotel in Moshi. This day is reserved for rest and pre-trek preparations.

Day 2: Moshi to Machame Gate to Machame Camp

  • Altitude: 1,800m to 3,000m
  • Trekking Time: 5-7 hours
  • Distance: 11 km
  • Environment: Rainforest

The trek begins at the Machame Gate, where climbers will register and start the ascent through lush rainforests. The first day’s hike ends at Machame Camp, where dinner and overnight will be spent under the stars.

Day 3: Machame Camp to Shira Camp

  • Trekking Time: 4-6 hours
  • Distance: 5 km

Climbers will rise early and embark on a hike that takes them out of the rainforest and into the heather and moorland zone. This route offers expansive views of the mountain and its surroundings.

Day 4: Shira Camp to Lava Tower to Barranco Camp

  • Trekking Time: 6-7 hours

  • Environment: Semi-desert

This is an important day for acclimatization. Trekkers ascend to the Lava Tower, then descend to Barranco Camp. This process helps the body adjust to high altitudes.

Day 5: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

The day begins with a challenging scramble up the Barranco Wall, followed by a more relaxed path to Karanga Camp. The views of the West Breach and Southern Glacier are spectacular.

Day 6: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

  • Environment: Alpine desert

Trek to Barafu Camp, which is the staging point for the summit. Rest and prepare for a midnight start to the summit.

Day 7: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp

  • Altitude: 4,673m to 5,895m to 3,100m
  • Trekking Time: 11-14 hours
  • Distance: 17 km
  • Environment: Arctic

This is the most challenging day, beginning at midnight. Climbers ascend in the dark and arrive at the summit—Uhuru Peak—at sunrise. After celebrating at the summit, the descent begins down to Mweka Camp.

Day 8: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate to Moshi

  • Altitude: 3,100m to 1,640m
  • Trekking Time: 3-4 hours
  • Distance: 10 km
  • Environment: Rainforest

The final descent takes climbers through the rainforest to Mweka Gate. After receiving summit certificates, climbers are transferred back to Moshi for well-deserved rest.

Day 9: Departure

After a restful night, climbers will be transferred to the airport for their flights home, or they may choose to extend their trip with a safari or beach holiday.
